about the blog

I typed dougsfunhub into Google and got one entry with dougsfunhub.com. Either I did something to help google find it, or one of their spiders crawled over it. So I think that is good. Hello World!

I also experimented with RSS. I found it cryptic, both in my dummies book and in help from the interwebs. I finally tried a free login at feedly.com, and it allowed me to subscribe to dougsfunhub.com, giving me a chronological list of the posts there. And an advertisement for a product called Flatfile. Anyway, my theory is that WordPress automatically generates an RSS feed of posts, and puts it at dougsfunhub.com or maybe dougsfunhub.com/feed/, and the feedly reader can use what it finds there to subscribe and collect the posts that get published there.

I got the impression that RSS is not used so much any more, and people are pushing notifications to Twitter or Facebook now. It doesn’t appear that I need to do much else with RSS, unless there is some way to encourage a site visitor to subscribe to the RSS feed.

Any comments about these things would be greatly appreciated!

Doug
